Just over a month ago I purchased two ASUS Radeon R9 280X TOP (R9280X-DC2T-3GD5) graphics cards for mining the cryptocurrency called litecoin. Having played around with various settings I have found the most efficient mining setup using cgminer to be:

./cgminer --scrypt -o -u USER.NAME -p PASSWORD -d 0 --remove-disabled -I 13 -g 2 -w 256 --auto-fan --gpu-fan 10-100 --temp-cutoff 90 --temp-overheat 85 --temp-target 82 --gpu-memclock 1800 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-powertune 0 --thread-concurrency 8192

This gave ma hashrate of about 740 ± 15 khash/s

A few things I learnt along the way:

— You’ll want to use cgminer version 3.7.2 and not anything newer (this is so the graphic cards are supported).
— If you are using more than 1 graphics card, then instead of -d 0 use -d 0,1 (here 0 and 1 are the graphic cards).
— Don’t connect the cards via crossfire. It will only make it slower, not faster.
